Biophysics Numericals and Their Applications in Medicine: A Quantitative Approach for MBBS Students

Author : Dr. S Hari Prasad

Abstract :

Biophysics gives medical students a practical way to connect the principles of physics with the way the human body works and with the technologies used in medicine. For MBBS students, its value goes well beyond learning physical laws in isolation. Processes such as blood flow, breathing, movement, membrane transport, nerve conduction, vision, hearing and regulation of body temperature can all be understood more clearly when viewed quantitatively. Medical biophysics commonly covers biomechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, membrane transport, bioelectricity, optics, acoustics, radiation and medical imaging. This article presents a clinically oriented approach to solving biophysics numericals, with emphasis on selecting the right equation, using units correctly, checking dimensions and, most importantly, relating the numerical result to physiology and clinical practice.
