Effect of Lockdown on Ambient Air Quality Index during Covid-19 Pandemic in Delhi – NCR, India

Abstract :
The industrial as well as transportation emissions of air pollutants have been increasing considerably worldwide since the past decade. Thus the aim of this study to examined the air quality index and its effect on ambient pollutants during lockdown due to COVID-19 deadly pandemic situation from March 2020 to May 2020. The air quality index data was collected weakly from the date of the first Lockdown start to last date of end lockdown as well as unlockdown, and major pollutants such as Particulate Matter 2.5µg (PM2.5), Particulate Matter 10 µg (PM10), and Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) obtain from the CPCB online dashboard for air quality. The results revealed AQI and ambient pollutants had declined and the t-test shows a significant difference between lockdown and unlockdown. Therefore, the present study suggests AQI and pollutants have declined as a result of improved air quality.
