Abstract :

The present study was undertaken to study and compare the sport achievement motivation and anxiety among state-level and district-level players of the Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh. Psychological factors have an important role in sports performance and are often considered to be as important as physical fitness and technical skills. Achievement motivation and anxiety are major determinants of athletic success among the various psychological variables. Achievement motivation motivates athletes to seek excellence. Anxiety influences concentration, confidence, and performance in competition. The study was conducted on a sample of 60 players. The sample consists of 30 state-level players and 30 district-level players selected on the basis of purposive random sampling. Data was collected via the Sport Achievement Motivation Test (SAMT) and the standardized Sports Anxiety Questionnaire. Statistical analysis was done using mean, standard deviation, and independent samples t-test. The findings showed that state-level players had significantly higher achievement motivation and lower anxiety levels than district-level players. The results indicate that competing at higher levels of competition has a positive influence on psychological development and better prepares the athlete to cope with competitive stress. The research focuses on psychological training programs in sports coaching that aim to enhance motivation and effectively manage anxiety.
