Theories of Vocational Choice: An Analytical Review of Classical and Contemporary Perspectives

Abstract :
Vocational choice is an essential aspect of human development that influences an individual's personal accomplishment, economic constancy, and social adjustment. A complicated interaction of personal characteristics, environmental conditions, developmental involvements, and social influences outlines the career decisions. Over the years, several theorists have attempted to explain how individuals choose occupations and develop careers. These theories provide valuable outlines for understanding career behaviour and guiding vocational counselling practices. This conceptual paper discusses the major theories of vocational choice, including the contributions of Frank Parsons, Eli Ginzberg, Donald Super, John Holland, Anne Roe, John Krumboltz, and Linda Gottfredson. The paper examines the central ideas of each theory and highlights their significance in educational and vocational guidance.
