Abstract :
Digital banking has emerged as an important instrument for promoting financial inclusion by providing convenient, accessible, and cost-effective banking services to people in remote and rural areas. The rapid development of digital technologies, including mobile banking, internet banking, Unified Payments Interface (UPI), Aadhaar-enabled Payment System (AePS), and digital payment applications, has transformed the delivery of financial services in India. However, rural communities continue to face challenges such as inadequate internet connectivity, limited digital literacy, lack of awareness, security concerns, and difficulties in accessing digital banking facilities. This study aims to examine the role of digital banking in promoting financial inclusion in remote and rural areas of Cuddalore District, Tamil Nadu. It focuses on the accessibility and utilisation of digital banking services, the level of awareness among rural people, and the major factors influencing the adoption of digital banking. The study also seeks to identify the challenges faced by rural customers in using digital financial services and to suggest suitable measures for improving their accessibility and effectiveness. The research may adopt a descriptive research design using primary data collected from rural banking customers through a structured questionnaire, supported by secondary data from relevant reports, publications, and official sources. The findings are expected to provide insights into the relationship between digital banking adoption and financial inclusion and to support the development of more accessible, secure, and inclusive banking services. The study may be useful to banks, policymakers, financial institutions, and development agencies in designing strategies to strengthen digital financial inclusion and promote sustainable rural development in Cuddalore District.
