Sustainable Development Goals and Holistic Development: An Analysis of Integration Pathways, Framework and Strategies
Author : Dr. Sangeeta Borthakur Tamuli
Abstract :
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted in 2015 as a part of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda, present a universal framework aimed at addressing multifaceted global challenges including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, and global health. While the SDGs represent an ambitious and interconnected vision, their integration into national governance systems, corporate strategies, educational institutions, and community-level planning remains inconsistent across regions. This paper examines theoretical and practical dimensions of SDG integration, drawing on systems thinking, policy coherence frameworks, and multi-level governance theory. Through comparative analysis of global best practices, the paper identifies key facilitators of and barriers to integration, including financing constraints, policy fragmentation, data limitations, and governance weaknesses. The findings highlight the importance of multi-stakeholder engagement, localized implementation strategies, sustainable financing mechanisms, and capacity-building initiatives. Recommendations emphasize strengthening intersectoral coordination, leveraging digital technologies, promoting inclusive governance, and aligning national priorities with global sustainability commitments.
