Author : Dr. Nitin Ghevar Chaudhari
Abstract :
The Indian stock market has undergone significant transformation in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aims to explore the evolution, structural changes, and growth trajectory of the Indian stock market before, during, and after the pandemic period. Using secondary data from authoritative sources such as SEBI, NSE, and BSE, the paper presents a comparative analysis of major indices—Nifty 50 and Sensex—highlighting their performance across the years 2018 to mid-2025. The results indicate a sharp recovery and unprecedented investor participation post-COVID, driven by increased digital adoption, mobile trading apps, and a surge in demat account openings. While the pandemic initially triggered market volatility and investor uncertainty, the Indian stock market demonstrated resilience and quickly rebounded, achieving historic highs. This research also outlines the limitations and future prospects of the market in the post-pandemic era. The study provides valuable insights for investors, policymakers, and academicians seeking to understand the shifting dynamics of the Indian equity market landscape.
