Abstract :

One of the major external environmental factors that affects growth, development, stress tolerance, survival, reproductive fitness, and sex ratio is the nutritional diet. The purpose of this study is to determine how Chia seed affects the sex ratio in Drosophila melanogaster flies by cultivating them on wheat cream agar medium, 5g Chia seed media, 10g Chia seed media and 15g chia seed media. The findings showed that in all the four diets, more female offspring were produced than male offspring. In comparison to the wheat cream agar diet, which produced fewer female and male offspring, the 5g Chia seed media treated flies produced significantly more female and more male offspring. The 10g and 15g Chia seed media treated flies also produced an average amount of male and female offspring. This implies that the offspring sex ratio in D. melanogaster is affected by diet.
