The Unwaged Labour of Housewives in India: The Invisible Burden

Abstract :

The female class of the world performs a large amount of unwaged labour within their family compared to men. The condition of women in India is not an exception to this matter. The traditional conservative character of society, established customs, and even the attitude of women themselves contributed to this situation. They perform multiple tasks both inside and outside the family for satisfy the assigned role of housewives. Our society is very rarely addressing these types of issues of women. Though most housewives work in India and contribute to the economy, but their work is not recorded or counted for official statistics. Recently there has been discussion on payment to housewives for their household activities, in different walks of life. It receives both positive and negative remarks. But, no doubt, it is a serious matter of discussion.
