From Page to Screen: The Transformation of Narrative in Digital Literature and Web-Based Storytelling

Author : Dr. L Sangeetha and S Janani

Abstract :

The rapid advancement of digital technology has redefined the landscape of literary production and consumption. Digital literature, emerging at the intersection of literature and technology, challenges the conventional norms of authorship, narrative structure, and reader engagement. This paper explores how narrative techniques evolve within digital environments, particularly focusing on hypertext fiction, interactive storytelling, and web-based narratives. It argues that digital literature transforms linear storytelling into a dynamic, nonlinear, and participatory experience. Drawing on theories from digital humanities and media studies, the paper examines how interactivity, multimodality, and networked structures reshape the relationship between author, text, and reader. Furthermore, it highlights the aesthetic and cultural implications of these changes and the need for new critical frameworks to analyze digital texts. Ultimately, this study positions digital literature as an innovative and expanding field that redefines storytelling in the twenty-first century.
