Given the short and long-term benefits of breastfeeding to the infant, mother and society, implementing BFHI alongside with the other objectives stated in the Global Strategy for Infant and Young Child Feeding – continues to have an important role to play in health services worldwide.

The mean knowledge score was 14.75 with the standard deviation ± 5.58 and mean percentage was 49.17. The above data reveals that the majority of the staff nurses were having moderate knowledge about BFHI.
Conclusion: There is an urgent need to re-evaluate the present knowledge of our nursing staff and to ensure they impart the right information. The only way to achieve this is through advocacy and training to promote, support and protect breast feeding.
