Abstract :
Vranashopha is the most common infection of the skin involving deep dermis and subcutaneous tissue, Vranashopha shares common pathological features of inflammation in modern science. In Ayurveda vranashopha is known by different names in different context namely Shotha, Shopha, Shwayathu and Utsedha. Inflammation is duly recognized in Ayurveda as a pathological manifestation, while Modern Medicine considers Inflammation as a symptom or rather as a healing response of the body. Ayurveda treats the concepts of Inflammation as symptom of a disease, an independent disease and complication of disease. The disturbances in micro channel circulation result in development of vranashopha due to Srotodushti (clogging of channels) by Aama (toxic waste of metabolism). The proper clinical approach to Vranashopha plays an important role in management and preventing complication of Vranashopha. There are several effective treatment modalities available for the management of vranashopha in ayurveda an effort is made to review all the treatment modalities i.e. conservative, parasurgical and surgical procedures in ayurveda for the management of vranashopha.
