Financial Performance of Indian Cement Companies Pre and Post-Mergers and Acquisitions

Abstract :

The main aim of this paper is to compare financial performance of pre and post mergers and acquisitions of acquiring companies in Indian cement industry with the help of various financial parameters. Growth, diversification, profitability etc. are some of the major strategic reasons behind mergers and acquisitions. The Indian cement industry is one of the largest in the world and plays a crucial role in the nation's infrastructure development. It is characterized by high demand, significant competition, and frequent mergers and acquisitions (M&A) aimed at enhancing market share, capacity, and financial performance. The research focuses on significant mergers and acquisitions in the cement industry between 2000 and 2024. The acquiring company’s performance is considered on the basis of two phases i.e. pre mergers and acquisitions period and post mergers and acquisitions period. This study will help us to obtain a true insight into the operating performance of the selected cement companies in India. Previous studies have examined various aspects of mergers and acquisitions in the cement industry, focusing on operational efficiencies and market expansion. However, there is limited research specifically analyzing the financial performance of Indian cement companies before and after mergers and acquisitions. This study aims to fill the gap by providing a comprehensive analysis of the financial impacts of mergers and acquisitions on Indian cement companies.
