Pharmacognostic, Physicochemical & Phytochemical Study on an Anti-Asthmatic Research Formulation Composed with Bharangi, Sunthi, Pippali for Standardization of the Herbs

Author : Madhuchhanda Das and PB Kar Mohapatra

Abstract :

The study deals with tools and techniques employed in pharmacognosy as well as the physicochemical and phytochemical activity evaluation of formulation composed with Bharangi, Sunthi and Pippali. This formulation first mentioned by Yogratnakar for the treatment of shwas disorders. Pharmacognostic evaluation helps to screen the commercial varieties, substitutes, adulterants and any other quality control of the drugs. It is a simple and reliable tool, helps to obtain information about biochemical and physical properties of crude drug (bharangi-sunthi-pippali). Physicochemical study involves assessing parameters like pH, absorption spectra, partition coefficients, and other specific chemical properties. It is a rapid, cost-effective, and standardized method that can be used to assess potential dermal toxicity. Phytochemical screening not only helps to reveal the constituents of the plant extracts and the one that predominates over the others but also is helpful in searching for bioactive agents that can be used as dietary supplement.
This study provides the scientific data for the proper identification and establishment of standards for the use of the research drug.
