Author : Dr. Rashmi Manoj
Abstract :
In today's digital age, media consumption has become an integral part of daily life, profoundly shaping individuals' perceptions and beliefs. Among the myriad of influences exerted by media, one of the most scrutinized areas is its impact on body image consciousness, particularly among college girls. This research paper explores how media impact the body image consciousness of college girls, with a particular focus on understanding these effects across diverse demographic groups. These groups include undergraduate and postgraduate students, attendees of both government and private colleges, and individuals residing in rural and urban areas. Through a thorough analysis of survey data, the study aims to illuminate the degree of influence exerted by media on body image consciousness, while also identifying potential variations within these specific demographic categories. By investigating the relationship between media exposure and perceptions of beauty, this research enhances our understanding of the complex factors shaping body image consciousness among college girls. The findings reveal that there are no significant differences in opinions regarding the influence of media on body image consciousness among undergraduate and postgraduate girls, as well as those attending government and private colleges. However, notable differences in opinions were observed between urban and rural girls.
