Sjögren’s syndrome is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by ocular and oral dryness resulting from lacrimal and salivary gland dysfunction. In autoimmune disorder the body’s immune system starts destructing its own cell. In Sjogren’s syndrome those gland which produces fluids, such as the lacrimal glands behind the eyelids, and the salivary glands in the mouth are destroyed. They reduces the amount of saliva, tears and other fluids in the body. The triads of Sjogren’s Syndrome is keratoconjunctivitis sicca (Dry eye), Xerostomia (Dry mouth) & Rheumatoid Arthritis. The average age of onset is 40-60 years with estimated prevalence of up to 3% of population. As there is no direct correlation and no known curative treatment of this disease in ayurveda, although some symptoms shows resemblances with Amavata disease. The involvement of Vata, Pitta doshas, Ras, Meda, Majja dhatus and aama, is responsible for the manifestation of disease. In this study an attempt is made to treat Sjogren’s syndrome with the help of Panchkarma. In light of this, Ayurveda may offer some promise in the treatment of Sjogren's syndrome, which will be extremely beneficial in future.
