Social Media: A Catalyst for Value-Based Education
Author : Suneesh K and Swaroopa PK
Abstract :
This study explores the intersection of value education and the influence of social media on young individuals, examining how social media shapes personal values and behaviors, and evaluating the role of value education in fostering resilience, critical thinking, and ethical behavior in the digital age. As social media increasingly influences attitudes and social norms, this research investigates the dual roles these platforms play in value formation and the challenges they present to traditional value education. Through an in-depth review of existing literature, this study identifies core values impacted by social media, such as self-worth, empathy, and integrity, and discusses how value education can counteract potential negative effects. This research concludes that integrating value education with digital literacy skills in schools can support students in navigating social media responsibly, promoting positive value formation and critical thinking in online spaces. Recommendations for educators, policymakers, and parents highlight strategies for bridging value education with social media awareness to create a balanced approach to personal and moral development.
