Orthodontic Management of Canine Impaction: A Case Report

Abstract :
Cusids play very important role with the point of function as well as esthetic. However, sometimes its failure of eruption of the canine happens and is most encountered clinical problems. Upper canine as compared with lower canine are frequently impacted and palatally impaction is more frequent event than labially impaction. Of all patients with maxillary impacted canines, it is estimated that 8% have bilateral impactions. Mandibular canine impaction incidence is 0.35%. In this case report, 19-year-old female reported with a chief complaint of malaligned teeth and spacing. She had a grossly symmetric, mesoprosopic face. On clinical and radiographical examination showed a spaced upper arch, with retained deciduous canine bilaterally in upper and lower arch along with 50% deepbite and a 3-mm overjet. All permanent canines were impacted. Comprehensive orthodontic therapy along with surgical exposure of 13, 23 helped in achieving all the treatment objectives to a great patient satisfaction without any adverse effects on the periodontium or the dentition. This case report details the diagnosis and clinical management with straight wire fixed appliances were used to correct the impaired occlusion and to obtain an ideal torque control.
