Abstract :

India is the nation with the greatest biodiversity on earth. The nation maintains a wide range of diverse ecosystems or habitats, including forests, deserts, wetlands, coastal and marine environments, grasslands, and more, all of which have their own distinct floristic variety. In order to conduct a floristic survey of monocotyledonous plants in Surwad and the adjacent area from Indapur Tehsil in Pune District, the current study was conducted. The Indapur Tehsil has a total area of 1,471km2. Regular surveys and exploration covering the growth over the mansoon, winter, and summer seasons from 2021 to 2022 were conducted. Based on their physical and reproductive properties, the plant samples were gathered. Identification of plant species with the help of standard literature. Based on the present study the area is represented by 13 families, 30 genera with 40 species have been recorded. The dominant family of species is Poaceae followed by Asparagaceae, Amaryllidaceae, Alliaceae, Arecaceae, Commelinaceae, and Araceae. The remaining six families contribute one species-Zingiberaceae, Cannaceae, Musaceae, Liliaceae, Typhaceae, and Cyperaceae. In the studied area, most families only have one species. The most commercially significant plant family is the Poaceae, which produces domesticated cereal crops like maize, wheat, rice, barley, and millet as well as animal feed. The taxonomic view of monocots from the Indapur tehsil of the Pune district, which provides a preliminary checklist of plants, is the foundation of the current study. The diversity of monocotyledon plants is recognised in this study, and their medicinal applications play a significant part in the healthcare of people.
