Role of Socioeconomic Status in Creation of Career Perception

Abstract :
The present study was launched and designed to study the role of socio-economic status in creation of perception regarding student's career. In the Indian subcontinent, students pay utmost importance to choosing a career as it determines peoples status in society. Modem education system and scenario is changing very rapidly. Everything is controlled by market forces and market is unstable in itself. In this situation one can imagine the future of the higher education. Students are more confused and do not receive proper guidance to choose proper discipline for their proper career. They choose disciplines which are already available and economically affordable. The makers and strategy developers are also in favour of globalizing and internationalizing education for above purpose eight disciplines were selected that medical science, management, engineering, science (IT). Agricultural sciences, Education, Fine arts and pure arts. From each disciplines students were selected randomly from three institutions that M.G.C.G.V. Chitrakoot Gramodaya University Chitrakoot, M.L.N. medical college Allahabad (U.P.). They represented various socio-economic levels. Here in this study researchers have done efforts to know the role of socio-economic status and choosing the option of career among students of various disciplines. Obtained results clearly indicate that the students who have rich background were opted professional career than their other counterparts. Socio economic status considered an important factor of family structure as it indicates the social position, power and resources of a family. In this regard, Career perceptions are formulated through various processes and may be affected by different factors and variables. The details of findings were discussed in this present paper.
