A Study on Prospects and Challenges Faced by the Coffee Growers in Wayanad District, Kerala

Abstract :
Coffee is one of the prominent cash crops of India which is considerably contributing to the GDP of India. In recent days, farmers interest coffee cultivation has considerably reduced and they prefer migrating to other crops or even to other fields. This indirectly affect the GDP of the economy and employability opportunities of Wayanad people. This paper investigates the challenges faced by the coffee growing farmers and the prospects in coffee cultivation. For the purpose of research, the researcher has collected data from 110 farmers using structured questionnaire. Application of required tools found that, most of the demographic factors have significant association with prospects and challenges. Coffee cultivable land, experience in coffee cultivation and educational qualification of the famers have considerable influence on perception of prospects and challenges.
